Spirometry can be used to differentiate many symptoms such as cough, dyspnea (difficulty breathing). Sputum production, exercise intolerance, wheezing, or chest pain. It will usually reveal the type of lung disease as either Obstructive or Restrictive which lead to a prompt diagnosis in most cases.
Asthma, COPD (Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema), Bronchiectasis, Cystic Fibrosis.
Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis, Scleroderma.
Spirometry will allow accurate prescription of medication and the patient's response to treatment.
With our equipment (Plethysmograph/Body Box) we can measure different lung volumes at different stages of breathing. Too little air may indicate restrictive lung disease. Too much and maybe there is air trapping.
Diffusing Capacity is a measure how well oxygen and carbon dioxide are transferred (diffused) between the lungs and the blood, and can be useful test in the diagnosis and monitor treatment of lung diseases.
Airway Resistance of the respiratory tract to airflow during inhalation and expiration is measured using Plethysmograph/Body Box, and is useful in evaluation of lung disease process.
